Kayak Camping Expedition Highlights
Explore Mamangua, Paraty's 'Tropical Fjord' and get ready for the open sea.
On this 5 day Kayak Camping Expedition, we paddle from Paraty to Camburi in the neighbouring municipality of Ubatuba.
Leaving Pontal Beach in Paraty we paddle the protected waters of the bay of Paraty to the famous Saco do Mamanguá, where we spend 02 nights. On these days we have time to review and practice rescue techniques before venturing out into rougher seas.
Paddling in open sea around the Juatinga Point.
On the third day, following the coast of the Juatinga peninsula, we arrive at Pouso de Cajaiba village. From this point, providing Mother Nature allows us, we will pass the Juatinga point and head into open sea. If everything goes well, we arrive in Ponta Negra village or Sono beach at the end of the day. In the final stretch, we paddle to Camburi Beach where the expedition finishes.
In one of his interviews, the Brazilian adventurer and transatlantic rower, Amyr Klink has commented: “I think Joatinga is more dangerous than the Cape Horn itself”. It may be an exaggeration, but certainly Ponta da Joatinga (or Juatinga) needs to be approached with respect, local knowledge and rigorous planning.
Camp on remote golden sandy beaches and enjoy delicious Caiçara cuisine.
On this roots camping expedition we will spend the nights in tents (or sleeping in hammocks!) on the beautiful beaches of the region. Each day we start very early, preferably at sunrise, to be able to guarantee the day’s mileage in the best possible sea conditions. In the evening, we enjoy the excellent Caiçara cuisine – seafood, rice, beans, manioc flour and salad – while going over the next day’s paddling plans.
