Kayaking Course description and information
This 2 day sea kayaking course in Brazil is run by an American Canoe Association (ACA) qualified sea kayak instructor in the picturesque colonial town of Paraty. Located midway between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Paraty is easily accessible by road yet far enough from the big cities to offer you the most amazing sea kayaking in Brazil.
On this 2 day course we work on the main sea kayaking techniques, manoeuvres and rescues in the warm water bay of Paraty. The key to becoming a better paddler is ‘practice, practice, practice’ and as a 2 day course there is plenty of time to work on your new skill set. With over 50 islands and more than 100 beaches Paraty has been rightly called a ´sea kayaker’s paradise’ by National Geographic Magazine. The perfect scenario for developing your paddling skills!
What experience do I need?
No previous kayaking experience is required for the ACA level 2 course.
We will begin with the basics and build your skill set and confidence.
We paddle for 4 to 5 hours per day with plenty of breaks throughout the day.
To get the most out of the course you should be fairly fit and comfortable swimming or floating (with lifejacket) in deep water.

DAY 01 Southside of the bay
Paddling instruction and safety
Most of the course is conducted on the water but we also make full use of the beaches to explain and refine technique.
The warm, calm waters are perfect for practicing and refining techniques and rescues.
On the first day we paddle as far as Jurumirim beach, one of the prettiest in the bay.
Michael, the ACA instructor, is a brit paddler with 20 years experience paddling in the bay of Paraty.
DAY 02 Northside of the Bay
Today we explore the other side of the Paraty Bay building on the techniques and manoeuvres from Day 01.
We also take full advantage of the warm waters to practice rescues. Boosting confidence in self-rescues and rescuing others is one of the main objectives of the course.
In addition to the islands and beaches we also paddle the mangrove where the ability to control your kayak makes all the difference!
And a great chance to spot wildlife!
Course Structure: 2 days/ 2 nights duration. Day 01: Southside of Paraty Bay - Kayaking classes for techniques and manoeuvres; Day 02: Northside of Paraty Bay - techniques and manoevres practice, assisted rescues and self-rescue classes.
Difficulty Level: Medium. We paddle approximately 4-5 hours a day with breaks and stops for theory and onland demonstration.
Included: 02 nights accommodation with breakfast; all sea kayak equipment rental (individual kayak, lifejacket, paddle, spraydeck); ACA (American Canoe Association) certified Kayak Instructor state-registered Tour Guide, ACA course participation certificate.
Not Included: Meals, drinks and personal expenses.
Meals: Each participant takes his or her own picnic lunch/ snacks on both days (supermarket nearby for shopping). At the end of the first day we have a BBQ by the pool at the accommodation (we split the shopping bill). Note: 02 Breakfasts included
Instructor: student: 1:5 ratio. Course requirements: minimum of 2 people; Maximum 10 people (2 instructors)
Minimum age: 14 years old. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For families we recommend private courses - contact us for more info.
Accommodation: Bed & Breakfast house with pool area. Rates based on 2 people sharing. Bed linen and towels provided. Fast Wi-Fi.

Route: Subject to changes to ensure the enjoyment and safety of participants. The itinerary will depend on the weather (mainly the wind), sea conditions (tide, swell, currents), and the disposition of the participants!
Postponement and Cancellation Policy: In case of extreme weather conditions you can switch to a land-based tour, postpone or cancel.
